SOUTH TAMPA EXEC APPOINTED Vice President of Harrod Properties Chad Harrod Elected President of The Pediatric Cancer Foundation Board of Directors in June TAMPA, FL – August 5, 2005 – The Pediatric Cancer Foundation (PCF) recently elected South Tampa Executive Chad Harrod as president of its Board of Directors. Harrod, Vice President of Harrod Properties, said he has always wanted to provide support to an organization such as PCF and has great expectations during his term as president. “ Currently, the Foundation’s focus is to build upon the success that PCF has experienced in recent years and expand our efforts in funding research to find a cure for childhood cancer, ” said Harrod. Harrod had a benign brain tumor at the age of 13 and was treated by pediatric oncologist Dr. Cameron Tebbi of St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital in Tampa. Though the tumor was not cancerous, his experience has given him a keen understanding of some of the challenges the children and their families face. Harrod, 28, continues to be a patient of Dr. Tebbi. “ In addition to funding seed grants, the Foundation is currently launching an initiative that will approach pediatric cancer research in a new, aggressive and results driven manner,” said Harrod. “Our goal is to align the right people with the right ideas to find the best results for pediatric cancer patients.” Harrod Properties is a South Tampa commercial real estate company that designs, builds, leases and manages office and industrial buildings in the Tampa Bay area. CHUCK LAMAR'S MERCURY GRAND SLAM CELEBRITY FISHING TOURNAMENT TO RAISE MONEY THIS FALL FOR KIDS' CANCER RESEARCH The Eighth Annual Tourney Named for Devil Rays' GM & Avid Angler Is Tampa Bay’s Pro-Am to Benefit Pediatric Cancer Research ST. PETERSBURG, FL – July 5, 2005 – Anglers and celebrities will pair up this November in another first class pro-am fishing tournament in Tampa Bay, to raise money for the Pediatric Cancer Foundation (PCF). The Eighth Annual Chuck LaMar Mercury Grand Slam Celebrity Fishing Tournament will take place November 11 - 13, 2005 from the Renaissance Vinoy Resort Hotel in St. Petersburg, Fla. Sports and entertainment celebrities will join avid fishermen in their quests to hit a grand slam for snook, redfish and trout, while raising money to help "Reel In The Cure" for childhood cancer. This event is named for avid angler Chuck LaMar, the general manager of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays baseball club; as well as for its title sponsor, Mercury Marine, worldwide builder of Mercury Outboards. Event highlights include the Friday morning Steve Yerrid Kid's Fishing Derby at the Vinoy Basin, in which children with cancer and their families learn the sport, share lunch with tournament celebrities and then have the opportunity to put their lines in the water in search of the ultimate catch. Friday evening is the Fishermen's Ball presented by Mercedes-Benz USA. This tropical fiesta, complete with dinner, entertainment, and live and silent auctions, will be held at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg. An array of some of Tampa’s finest restaurants including Salt Rock Grill, Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse and Island Way Grill will feature their delicious delicacies throughout the evening. On Saturday, a field of 50 boats is expected to participate in the inshore division of the two day tournament, departing from the Vinoy Yacht Basin, with fishing taking place in Tampa Bay tributaries for redfish, snook and trout. Coastal Conservation Association officials will provide judging, and their organization will partially benefit from event proceeds. The Offshore Angler Division, presented by Treasure Island Charities, is exclusively for fishermen who would like to explore the waters west of the beach. Beginning at 12 a.m. on November 12 anglers in the offshore division will be able to leave their personal port. For 36 hours, the offshore anglers may fish the Gulf for the three species eligible for this division: amberjack, grouper and snapper. TAMPA, FL – May 24, 2005 – The Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am Golf Tournament presented The Pediatric Cancer Foundation (PCF) with a $150,000 donation at the tournament’s Charity Check Presentation on Thursday, May 19, 2005. The presentation, held at Lee Roy Selmon’s Restaurant, 4302 West Boy Scout Blvd., also recognized other benefiting charities of the tournament: All Children’s Hospital, Freidriech’s Ataxia Research Alliance and Hannah’s Buddies-Fight FMA. “The Pediatric Cancer Foundation is honored to be part of such a wonderful event,” said Barbara Rebold, executive director at PCF. “We are overwhelmed by the generous support the tournament and community have given to so many great causes.” Each charity received an equal portion of the $600,000 raised throughout the seven-day tournament. TAMPA, FL – May 16, 2005 – Although the Johnny Ferlita Memorial Fishing Tournament was created to be a small family fishing event, the fourth annual tournament raised almost $40,000 for the Pediatric Cancer Foundation (PCF) on May 6 – 7, 2005. Through the efforts of Ferlita's friends and family, the event has generated over $150,000 for childhood cancer research in its first four years. The tournament is named for the late Johnny Ferlita, “Tampa’s Speed King of the Waterways.” It was held at the Tampa Bayside Marina, 5200 W. Tyson Avenue in Tampa. This one-day, catch-and-release tournament for Redfish, Snook and Trout began Friday with a Captain’s Meeting and Dinner Party. The Dinner Party featured a fabulous silent auction, an array of delectable delights from Pepin Restaurant of St. Petersburg, all served to an irresistible Latin beat by The Cuban Social Group. The fishing began Saturday at 7:00 a.m. with everyone returning to the Marina by 3:00 p.m. for a cookout and awards banquet. The largest overall fish was caught by Austin Ferlita, 11, who reeled in a 33-inch snook.
